Privacy Policy

This policy explains what VozType processes, why it is needed, and the choices you have.

Last updated October 16, 2026

At a glance

VozType processes only the information needed to provide dictation, translation, subscription access, and support. We do not sell personal information, run advertising, or use your content to build advertising profiles.

Information VozType processes

  • Audio and transcripts. When you start dictation, microphone audio is sent through VozType's encrypted audio relay to ElevenLabs to create a real-time transcript. Earlier app versions connect directly to ElevenLabs.
  • Translation content. In Translate mode, the current text segment, selected languages, and a short recent context are sent through the VozType backend to OpenAI to produce the translation.
  • Subscription status. The app and backend process an Apple-signed transaction to confirm that a VozType Pro subscription is active. Payments and billing details are handled by Apple.
  • Support messages. If you email us, we receive the contact details and information you include in your message.

Information stored on your Mac

VozType stores preferences, custom vocabulary, shortcuts, and up to 100 recent dictation history items locally on your Mac. Updated builds encrypt history with AES-GCM using a key stored in the macOS Keychain. Earlier builds store history in local app preferences; the encryption update migrates that history after verifying the encrypted copy. You can delete history items in the app. Removing the app and its local data removes this information from your Mac.

Service providers

VozType relies on Apple for distribution and subscriptions, ElevenLabs for speech recognition, OpenAI for optional translation, Vercel for backend hosting, Railway for the audio relay, and Upstash Redis for usage limits. These providers process information under their own privacy terms. API credentials remain on the backend and are not embedded in the app.

Retention and security

The VozType backend does not intentionally retain audio, transcripts, or translations after a request is completed. To enforce free usage and prevent abuse, it stores a hashed Apple transaction identifier and usage counters in Redis. The free-use counter is retained to prevent reinstalls from resetting the allowance. Session records expire after 15 minutes; request-rate counters expire after one minute. Relay authorization tickets expire after 60 seconds and contain a temporary provider credential and a hashed identity. Audio is buffered in memory only. Audio lease records expire within 24 hours and aggregate monthly usage counters within 62 days. Current subscription checks are cached for up to 60 seconds. Verified Apple subscription notifications also update refund and revocation records, retained until at least 30 days after the transaction expires. Operational logs may temporarily contain technical details needed for reliability and security. Third-party providers may retain information according to their own policies and service settings.

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. No system is completely secure, but we use reasonable technical measures to protect information processed by VozType.

Your choices

  • Do not start dictation if you do not want audio processed.
  • Use Natural or Literal mode to avoid the translation service.
  • Delete individual history items from the app.
  • Note: Transcriptions are automatically copied to the clipboard after dictation completes, replacing any existing clipboard content.
  • Revoke microphone access in macOS Settings.
  • Manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account.

Children

VozType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
